News and updates

March 2, 2006 - That's All, Folks!

After much consideration I've decided to stop updating the Norman Cook / Fatboy Slim side of The Aritu. I just don't have enough time and interest anymore. I still like what Norman's doing although not nearly as much as I used to. I'll of course keep up with what's going on and it's not entirely impossible that TA2's yellow side might some day wake up from its sleep. The site isn't going anywhere and there will still be stuff added at least to the blue side (although painfully slowly). Maybe someday The Aritu will update to version three but even then these pages would be safe and foundable.

If anyone's interested my rant about the subject can be found here.

Thank you, my apologies and goodbye...

January 22, 2006 - Cook and Cox

Norman Cook has collaborated with Carl Cox and the result is a track called "That's The Bass". Clips of the remixes released on vinyl can be listened here, where the record has already been sold out for the moment. Information of the release has been added to Discography.

JIVE Magazine interviewed Norman a while ago. The interview can be read here.

May 18, 2005 - Olds and news

Three new events where you can see Fatboy Slim in the summer:
August 6th, Sudoeste Festival, Portugal
August 27th, Creamfields, United Kingdom
August 28th, Get Loaded In The Park, United Kingdom

FatboySlim.net has finally been updated. In addition to tour information they have added the music video for "Don't Let The Man". It has already for some time been online for example on the site of the production company that made the video, Smuggler. Despite its good message the video is in the undersigned's opinion quite tastless and poor unlike previous videos made for the Palookaville album. However, it seems some people like it as it just won the price for the Electronic Music Video of the Year in this year's MVPA Awards. Other Fatboy Slim videos were also nominated. "Wonderful Night" for Directorial Debut of the Year and "The Joker" for Pop Video of the Year. Unfortunately they were left without an award.

April 17, 2005 - Festivals, festivals, festivals

In addition to the ones already announced, Fatboy Slim's summer festival tour will include at least three other festivals. On Friday July 1st he will be spinning records in Switzerland at OpenAir St.Gallen and on Saturday July 30th he will drop by in Naeba, Japan at Fuji Rock Festival. As usual, Norman will be at the legendary Glastonbury Festival, which is on June 24th-26th. The event's tickets were sold out ages ago but luckily BBC's radio stations will be broadcasting the atmosphere on the spot. More specific times will be added to this page later.

April 13, 2005 - Norman done it again?

In the lack of news let it be known that Media now has to offer a track called "Bad Hip Hop" by Master Done It Again. The song in question is rumoured to be a megamix by Norman Cook. It can be found at least on a collection named Scratchmasters Volume 3.

Good news to those who can't get to the Exit Festival. BBC Radio 1 will be playing the best live sets on Annie Mac's show. More information as it comes. You can also wait in here for more specific info.

March 20, 2005 - Summer in Europe

The coming summer looks good for Europeans as Fatboy Slim has already been confirmed as a performer on two festivals in Europe. Fatboy will be performing at Open'er Festival on July 8th-9th in Gdynia, Poland and at Exit Festival which will be arranged almost simultaneously in Serbia on July 7th-10th. Both of the festivals are in Eastern Europe but surely Fatboy will also find his way to other points of the compass. Hope never dies.

February 28, 2005 - Joker Monday

Today is the day of "The Joker" single's release. Tracklistings of the release's different formats have been added to the Palookaville page. The CD release includes a quite interesting completely new track called "The River Card". You can listen to the track in Skint's online music store Brassic Beats where you can also buy just about any Fatboy Slim song ever made.

February 13, 2005 - Back and forth the new continent

South America's tour is now over and next Fatboy Slim is heading north again or the United States. More information about the gigs in March can be found on FatboySlim.net where you can also listen short clips of all the new "The Joker" remixes.

Fatboy Slim's "Wonderful Night" song will be featured on the soundtrack of the new animated film "Robots". The soundtrack will be in stores March 1st.

Feburary 2, 2005 - Feeling a little blue?

The Aritu's blue side has finally been (more or less) finished. Click on the links on your left and feel a little blue. On the blue side or The Webmaster's side you can among other things listen to my DJ mix or for example ask information about Fatboy Slim. And that's about it at the moment...

At the same time The Aritu has gone through some adjusting. Links have been updated, the banners are gone and now the site looks correct in other browsers than Explorer as well. Internet Explorer is still the recommended browser. A lot of other adjusting and fixing has been done as well.

By the way, the Media page has this time two alternative versions of the eternal classic tune, "Love Island". Both of the version are by Fatboy Slim himself.

January 31, 2005 - Through Peru to Brazil

Fatboy Slim's South America tour is going to Brazil after all. Fatboy will be spinning vinyls in club Sirena in Maresias on February 8th. Even before the gigs in Brazil and Columbia he has a club gig in Lima, Peru. Here is a list of all the events (even the ones that have passed):

January 27, 2005 - Viña del Mar, Chile (on a pier, 20 000 people)
January 29, 2005 - Mar del Plata, Argentina (on a beach, 75 000 people)

February 8, 2005 - Maresias, Brazil (club Sirena)

January 26, 2005 - The Joker

Skint is releasing "The Joker" on February 28th as the third single from "Palookaville". "The Joker", which features Bootsy Collins, has already been released ages ago in the United States as a promo and very quietly in Europe in Decemeber. The British single includes five different remixes - from ATFC, Yousef, Lazyboy, Justin Robertson and Kid Carpet. As usual, it also includes the very sweet and very crazy music video.

If you want to see the video mentioned above, go for example here. It's the production team's own site. You can also view their other productions such as commercials or the other video they made for Fatboy Slim, "Wonderful Night".

Fatboy Slim's tour in South America has been confirmed for the first three events (the piece of news below). The gig planned for Brazil in February 8th has apparently been cancelled, but Fatboy is still planning to go there as well at some point.

January 12, 2005 - The other America's tour

Fatboy Slim has already toured in Britain and North America and now he's heading to South America. The list includes some quite large events, expected amounts of people vary from 2000 to 100 000.

January 27, 2005 - Viña del Mar, Chile (on a pier, 20 000 people)
January 29, 2005 - Mar del Plata, Argentina (on a beach, 100 000 people)
February 4, 2005 - Bogota Race Track, Columbia (25 000 people)
February 8, 2005 - Isle dos Reis, Brazil (in a club, 2000 people)

Hopefully Fatboy will soon discover Europe on the map and head here, too (especially to Finland).

January 8, 2005 - Something to tell

The news front has been a bit quiet lately, but there's always something to tell. BBC Radio 1 has again played brand spanking new music. Annie Mac played on her show the track "The Joker (Yousef Remix)". The remix is quite a lot different than the original song. It's worth to listen to the show carefully anyway, because it's full of good, new music.

In addition, Fatboy Slim's next gig is apparently in France, near Paris on Valentine's Day, February 14th. The event is football star Ronaldo's and his girlfriend's wedding reception. Ronaldo contacted Fatboy Slim through David Beckham.

December 23, 2004 - Merry merry merry!

The Aritu wishes a merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates it! And a merry end of December to those who don't! As a little Christmas present you can now download a radio rip of Fatboy Slim's this year's Glastonbury set from the Media page.

Here you can find an interview with Norman by DJ Times magazine.

And oh, a happy New Year, too!

December 1, 2004 - Something to read and watch

Here you can find an interview from October with Norman Cook and Simon Thornton by Remix magazine.

And here are video clips and pictures from Fatboy Slim's Brixton gig.

November 27, 2004 - News, links and videotape

The music video for "The Joker" can now be viewed here. The video is at least as mad as the earlier Palookaville clips. It will probably soon also be available from the official site, where you can also find a brand spanking new interview with Norman.

"Wonderful Night" single's tracklisting for the American release has been added to the Palookaville page as it is announced by RollingStone.com. The American single will be released on CD on November 30th and on vinyl on December 14th.

November 17, 2004 - Single madness

"Wonderful Night" single's tracklistings have been announced and can be found here. The release is pretty similar to the one of "Slash Dot Dash" which means the stores will have two different CDs. Or at least the stores in England... Included are the brilliant video and a new song "Jazz Odyssey". You can listen to the different versions of the single itself by registering on the official site.

But this is apparently only in the UK. The rest of the Europe will get "The Joker" which will be released on December 6th. We'll see if "Wonderful Night" will be available outside the British Isles at all.

Here you can listen a short clip of Fatboy Slim's performance on Conan O'Brien. Norman played with Lateef and Jonny Quality a live version of "Wonderful Night".

October 31, 2004 - We'll be right back with Fatboy Slim!

Fatboy Slim will the musical guest on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" only four days after his appearance on British television, November 9th. The show airs in NBC's late night. The day after the performance is the first day of Fatboy's North American tour to which you can get tickets from here.

Fatboy Slim is featured in this month's Mixmag and even got to be on the cover.

October 23, 2004 - BBCBBCBBC!!!

Norman Cook will be performing on "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross" on November 5th at 10.30 pm (Britain time) on BBC1. Norman will again play bass guitar with Jonny Quality and they are going to perform the new single "Wonderful Night". The performance will be taped before the airing of the show.

BBC's another number one, Radio 1 has a Fatboy Slim remix competition. The song to be remixed is "Don't Let The Man Get You Down" which will be released as the third single from the new album in the New Year. If the winning remix pleases the record company, it will be on the single's b-side. The deadline is December 1st and the winner will be announced on December 17th. More information and a short interview with Norman can be found here.

October 15, 2004 - A wonderful night for some news

The next single from "Palookaville", which at the moment is number 14 on the British album chart and number 2 on the dance album chart, will be "Wonderful Night". The song features rapper Lateef. The single hits the store shelves on November 29th and will include a house remix and a rock remix by Fatboy himself. In addition DJ Marky and Chief Xcel will make remixes. The music video for the new single has been directed by first timer Jon Watts. The video, which is said to be quite crazy, should appear on the official site during the evening. Palookaville page will be updated as new information comes in.

Here is a review of Fatboy Slim's first Palookaville gig. Apparently before his DJ set Norman played bass guitar with the Jonny Quality band. They played the tracks "Long Way From Home", "Push And Shove" and "Wonderful Night". Jonny Quality features on the album on "Long Way From Home". The warm-up DJ was Mark Johnson, winner of the contest on the official website.

October 7, 2004 - Push and shove war childs

Warchildmusic.com is selling an exclusive Fatboy Slim song. War Child Music sells via the Internet completely unique tracks. Profits of the tracks will be donated to help war childs. With 0,99 pounds you get an acoustic version of "Push And Shove" remixed by Justin Robertson. Robertson also features on the original track. Here War Music Child goes through Fatboy Slim's new album track-by-track.

October 5, 2004 - Out there!

"Palookaville" has finally made it to the shops! On the official site you can listen to a one minute long clip of every track by registering. The site is in any case getting finished and you can for example listen to a DJ set via the Fatboy Slim Radio page. That also requires registering. Apparently also all of Fatboy's music videos will be viewable at some point. You can already watch many of them on the Astralwerks site although with a rather poor quality.

Here is Independent's interview with Norman Cook. Pretty basic interview with also the personal things in there.

September 27, 2004 - Tracks 5 & 8 and charts

More treats from Radio 1. Pete Tong played on Friday "Put It Back Together", a love song in which sings drunken Damon Albarn. And Rob Da Bank played on Saturday morning "North West Three", also dedicated to Norman's wife Zoë. Both track are of course from the new album.

It's been a week since "Slash Dot Dash" was released and it's time to check the chart positions in the UK. From all the singles "Slash Dot Dash" was the 12th and from dance singles the 2nd most sold. In addition is was the 19th most downloaded track.

September 23, 2004 - Put the radio on and go to a football game!

Radio 1 is offering a sample from "Palookaville". Zane Lowe played "The Journey" from the LP on his show on Wednesday. Lateef sings on the track. You can listen Lowe's show here, just click the button on Wednesday. On the same site you can find the tracklisting for Fatboy Slim's One Big Weekend gig, which goes like this:

Fatboy Slim - Fatboy Intro
Spankox - To The Club
The Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian
Armand Van Helden - My, My, My
Subway - What U Got, What U Do

More news from Palookaville: Brighton's football club Brighton And Hove Albion is renaming its stadium Palookaville for the duration of one match on October 2th. The Skint logo on the players' shirts will also be replaced by the "Palookaville" text. The match in question is also the album's launch party and "Palookaville" will be premiered on the stadium.

September 17, 2004 - Commercial break

The future single "Wonderful Night" is currently the music for three different American adverts. Here you can watch the Olympus Stylus Verve ad. In addition to that the song is playing during Showtime's presentation of their Sunday shows and ABC's presentation of their Friday night shows.

In case anyone's interested, here is a picture of the promotional sticker for the new album.

September 10, 2004 - Couple things

Internet delights us again with a couple of Norman Cook related writings. Here you can find a brand new interview by the Guardian that talks about both Norman's life and the new album. Here is a little older writing that's purely about the new Fatboy record. What is revealed among other things is that one of the future singles will be "Wonderful Night" and that the album tour goes to America in November.

September 3, 2004 - Sample your radio

The release date of "Slash Dot Dash" has been postponed by one week. The new release date is September 20th. The delay is because of a confusion with the clearance of a sample used in the track. Norman has now made a slightly tweaked version of the song, from which you can hear a clip on the official site. The album is still coming out October 4th.

Fatboy Slim is performing in Birmingham in the free two-day event One Big Weekend on Saturday September 18th. You can hear Fatboy Slim on BBC Radio 1 on the Saturday in question at 7-9 pm (Britain time). More information here.

August 31, 2004 - Publish The Tempo

Haymarket Publishing is putting out a new music magazine "Rip & Burn". Featured on the first issue is an interview with Fatboy Slim. The magazine is now asking the fans what do they want to ask him. Send your suggestion to dan.sandy(at)haynet.com. The questions can't be longer than 160 characters, because later on as the magazine gets started readers will have to send their questions as text messages. The first issue will be out in England early October.

The Aritu's Palookaville page is being updated continuously. Now among other things there has been added "Jin Go Lo Ba" which is only out as a promotional vinyl. Media for its part now has the Ya Mama music video.

August 22, 2004 - Sites and multimedia

Preview of the new Fatboy Slim site has been open for some time now, and next week you can see there the new music video for "Slash Dot Dash", directed by Tim Pope. Although the video was originally promised for this week. For some reason on Monday 23th they're showing a 30 second clip of the video and the full video will be viewable the next day. Apparently the video has also already made its TV debut.

Astralwerks is also renewing its Fatboy Slim site. At the moment you can listen there the whole US edit of "The Joker".

July 31, 2004 - Pure bullshit

Nothing happened at FatboySlim.net on Friday after all and now there is only a new placeholder. Hopefully something will soon happen there as well.

However, you can hear "Slash Dot Dash" for example by listening again to either to Zane Lowe's Thursday show or Pete Tong's Friday show. They both have a different edit of the song.

This time Media has a radio rip of Fatboy Slim's gig in Glastonbury 2003.

July 28, 2004 - Listen!
(updated July 29)

You can hear the new single "Slash Dot Dash" on Friday July 30th at FatboySlim.net. On the same site beginning next month you can buy tickets to the UK tour in October. There is also going to be a contest were the price is two tickets to the gig chocen by the winner.

In addition to the above, "Slash Dot Dash" will get its radio debut on Thurday 29th on BBC Radio 1 after 7 pm (Britain time) on Zane Lowe's show.

You can listen to the "The Joker" as well now. It can be bought from Apple's iTunes online store here. Though first you of course have to download iTunes. And apparently live in America.

Palookaville has naturally been added to The Aritu's Discography and the page will be updated whenever there is new information available.

July 16, 2004 - Type-a-thing

Here is a short interview-type-a-thing where Norman tells a little about both of the new singles, "The Joker" and "Slash Dot Dash", and how he made them. The page also has a link through which you can listen a 30 second clip of "The Joker".

July 10, 2004 - American style

Eventhough in Europe the first single from the new album is "Slash Dot Dash", in the States "The Joker" takes its place. The track is a cover of Steve Miller Band's 1973 hit. It should appear on radio as soon as July 27th. The release date for the record itself is also different in USA, one day later.

July 6, 2004 - Palookaville!

"Don't Let The Man" is an album version of the song "Don Let The Man Get You Down". The length of "Slash Dot Dash" on the album might still change, the current one is the same as radio edit's. Apparently Norman played "Jingo" on his Glastonbury gig. And the O2 advert music did indeed shape into a whole track, "Long Way From Home".

June 27, 2004 - Glastonbury 2004

Fatboy Slim played as an expected surprise guest at this year's Glastonbury festival on Friday. Recording of the gig was played last night on Annie Nightingale's BBC Radio 1 show and you can hear it again here for a week. Just click "Listen again". Fatboy Slim's set begins on the third and final hour of the show.

June 25, 2004 - More initials

Mastering on the fourth Fatboy Slim album is finished and the tracklisting has been put together. Simon Thornton has given some hints again, this time initials to all the tracks:

1. DLTM
2. SDD
3. WN
4. LWFH
5. PIBT
6. MB
7. PAS
8. NWT
9. TJy
10. J
11. SFC
12. TJr

The opening track is quite obviously "Don't Let The Man Get You Down", although the title of the album version seems to have lost the last three words. The second song is also the first single. The title of the sixth track will change before release. Go guessing!

A new official Fatboy Slim site is on it's way as well, at www.fatboyslim.net. You can send ideas for the new site to Skint at mail@skint.net. Put "FATBOYSLIM.NET" as the subject.

June 15, 2004 - While waiting for the album... part 2

The new Fatboy Slim album is now in mastering stage. Simon Thornton, who is currently also making a radio edit for the first single, has given these clues:
- The first single's initial are SDD
- The name of the album begins with a P
Hopefully Skint will soon give an official press release... Anyway, new material should start playing on radio pretty soon, at least in the UK.

Norman is at the moment DJing around Portugal due to the football Euro 2004.

June 13, 2004 - While waiting for the album...

Norman has most recently remixed the following songs:
Max Sedgley - Happy
Tejo, Black Alien & Speed - Follow Me, Follow Me

And here is a few weeks old interview from Observer Music Monthly. The piece is mostly, but not only, about the gig in Brazil in March.

May 29, 2004 - The clouds are cathering...

Simon Thornton, Fatboy Slim's recording and mix engineer, told in his blog that the new album will be finished within a couple of weeks. That's pretty much all he could say, but everything is getting ready and apparently sounding good...

May 22, 2004 - Calm before storm?

News about Fatboy Slim has been a bit quiet lately, but at least a couple of gigs have been confirmed. The places for the next planned BBB-parties have also been announced: South Africa, Thailand, India and Australia. Eventhough Brighton didn't want the party, there are also intentions for a Big Beach Boutique somewhere else in Britain.

There's is a new wallpaper in Media ja the music samples have been changed as well.

April 14, 2004 - Commercial music

Fatboy Slim had made the music for the new O2 Digital Music Player advert playing in the UK. It isn't a whole song and it doesn't really have a name. It might however shape into a new full-length track. The song uses a sample from Fatboy Slim's own "Love Life" song. You can hear the music through this link. Massive thanks to BigBadBaz for recording the ad! You can visit his site here.

April 4, 2004 - No summer this year...

After the success of Big Beach Brazil the beach party was attempted to be arranged again in Brighton. In 2002 Brighton got into chaos when 250 000 people came to see the free DJ gig. The plan was to limit the amount of people this summer by making the event ticket-only. However talks with the local authorities hit a wall and the event won't be held in Norman's home town anymore. Thousands of excited partygoers as well as the traders in Brighton were left dissappointed. Well, there are always other beaches...

March 19, 2004 - English!

The English version of The Aritu's Norman Cook / Fatboy Slim site has been opened! A short address here is www.normancook.urli.net. Similar address to the Finnish site is www.fatboyslim.urli.net. Or you can just click the round flag on the right...

Here is a link to the Nokia Trends site that has a lot of information about BBB3. Although in Portugese... Video clips of the gig can be seen here. And here you can find an interview where Norman tells about his marriage... and also a little bit about his tour plans.

March 11, 2004 - Big Beach Brazil

Big Beach Brazil is now over. Here is at least a part of the playlist (songs aren't in the play order):

Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At
Dee Lite - Groove Is In The Heart
Donna Summer - I Feel Love
Duran Duran - Rio (Fatboy Slim Remix)
Fatboy Slim - Fucking In Heaven
Fatboy Slim - Praise You
Fatboy Slim - Star 69
Royal House - Party People
Underworld - Born Slippy / Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right Now
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
X-Press 2 - Smoke Machine

The list has been ripped from Push The Tempo site. Quite an interesting looking list. It has a lot of the same tracks as the first BBB. The remix of Duran Duran's Rio Norman only made for this show and he isn't going play it ever again unless he some day returns to Brazil. Hopefully we'll get a CD and/or a DVD of the gig like last time...

February 21, 2004 - New interview

Yesterday's Liverpool Echo newspaper had an interview with Norman Cook. As one could guess, Norman moved the probable release date of his new album again. This time he said it might come out sometime between July and September.

January 23, 2004 - BBB3

Norman Cook is arranging a third Big Beach Boutique free party, this time in Brazil. The location is Rio de Janeiro's Flamengo Beach and the date Sunday March 7th. 200 000 - 500 000 partygoers are expected. In addition to Fatboy Slim the DJ's will be at least Jon Carter and a Brazilian duo Marky & Patife. More info when it drops by.

The long-expected fourth Fatboy LP might be ready as soon as March but no official release date has been set. Fatboy Slim has also remixed Ludacris' new single "Stand Up".

Why am I not living in Brazil!!!
